Interview with Robin Hettrich (RH), Germany and MGC Dormagen-Brechten
This interview was done the 9th of May 2012. Interviewer is Hans Bergström (HB).
HB: First of all congratulations to a great season of 2011 which lead to winning the title of “Junior boy player of the Year” on Minigolfnews by winning the expert vote and become third in the public vote. Did you expect to win this vote?
RH: Thank you. I didn’t expect this but I am happy about the result.
HB: So, can you tell our readers who is Robin Hettrich?
RH: I'm 19 years old and live in Herne in Germany. Next year I'm doing my exams. Besides minigolf I also play handball. What is left of free time I spend with my friends.
HB: In the public vote you third and in the expert vote you won. Which of the two votes do you consider the greatest honor?
RH: I'm not sure which of the two polls that I consider the greatest honor. But I’m very happy that was voted for so often in both.
HB: Can you tell us with your own word the experience you and the team had in Naturns?
RH: We and of course especially myself was gaining lots of experience in Naturns. But what was most important was the fact that we played as a team and had lots of fun. In the end every player wanted to win the team and the singles titles.
HB: Often the modus in international Championship with team play, stroke play and match play is debated. What is your opinion about the current modus?
RH: I think that it is natural question to ask whether it’s good for the sport that there can be 2 players becoming the champions in the same year. My answer is that I think it is good, because some players have their strength in stroke play and other players in match play. So with this modus all players have the chance to win. The team play modus is indisputable for me.
HB: For the 2011/12 seasons you have changed to a Bundesliga club and have now played 3 times. Can you tell us about how it is to come into this quite competitive league as a newcomer?
RH: As a newcomer it is not so easy "to leave your footprint" in the league, because you are one of many top players. Also you have too little time to train and as newcomer more need to develop your own game.
HB: So how do you feel about the upcoming season? How does your season planning look like for 2012?
RH: I would like to play the German Championship and hope that I will play good with my team also. I also would like to qualify myself for the YWC and play there a good result for my country.
HB: If you could recruit any player in the world, as long as it’s not a German, to play for your club MGC Dormagen-Brechten, who would you pick?
RH: I'm not sure but this person will be a good, young player and a friendly person.
HB: What happens next for you in Minigolf?
RH: I play my last year in the junior class competitions and would like to play good result for the national team. My next target is, to win with Dormagen- Brechten in the German league and thereby to play in the Europa Cup.
HB: Again a big congratulation to winning the expert jury part of vote for “Junior Boy player of the Year” on Minigolfnews and good luck in the future.
RH: Thank you and good bye.
