The expectations before the tournament was that Germany with home advantage and strong team on both men and ladies side should be very hard to stop from bring home the two team gold’s. And of course this can still happen. Germany has a history of sharping up the team play on the second day from many international championships in the recent past. But anyhow I think many are a bit surprised of the drama that is going on in both classes.

In the ladies side it was already from the start Germany in the lead together with Austria on 81 strokes on beton. But it was a close game with seven teams within 8 strokes. A bad second eternit round from Austria and Germany could take the grip of things but also Switzerland started to move. And after all four round was played it’s a tie for the gold between Switzerland and Germany, both on 302. Austria’s is in thirds with 315 and then Czech Republic follows on 317. So as it looks now it could be a drama for gold and another drama for bronze tomorrow.

Best individually amongst the ladies are:

1. Sandra Wicki, Switzerland 98
2. Anne Bollrich, Germany 99
3. Stefanie Blendermann, Germany 100
4. Yvonne Trachsel, Switzerland 100
5. Jennifer Helm, Austria 101

Noteworthy is also that the dominating player in the past years Bianca Zodrow is only found on 8th position with 103 strokes so far.

In the men’s team play it was incredible close in the top the whole day. Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria and Finland where the surprising top four teams most of the day. All of them in top position at any point in time during the day.

Maybe equally surprising was that Germany and Sweden where fighting for position 5 and 6 most of the day, however there where never any really big margin from place six up to the top. The last beton round where sharp from three teams. 155 for Switzerland, and thereby they are in the overnight lead, 156 by Germany taking them up to silver position and 157 by Sweden taking them up to place 4.

On bronze position Czech Republic is found. Switzerland has a margin of 5 strokes down to Germany and then the places two until six is close between with 601 for silver and 608 for place six. It seems like anything can really happen tomorrow.

Two double rounds completes the team finals tomorrow.
