Girls Take Charge at XII Russia Youth Championships

The Russia Youth Championships 2016 (U19) took place in Samara on 18-hole miniature course on May 6th-8th, 2016. There was a total of 27 participants (17 boys/10 girls) who competed in 12 rounds over the 3 days. Yulia Korytina won the girls division and had the overall lowest score of any participant, barely edging Polina Mogilevskaya by 1 stroke in the final round. For the boys, Evgeny Slivko was the winner.

Per Golf.ru article (full article linked below in Russian with pictures and video): Throughout the 10 main and the final two rounds of the girls and boys, it was a tight race for first place. While two girls immediately broke from the pack, after almost every round there was a new leader for the boys. Everything was decided in the final round for both the girls and the young men, by a margin of just one point. Overall the tournament was called "enchanting" by the sports tournament director.

Complete medal lists is as follows:

Girls:
1) Yulia Korytina (St Petersburg) - 24.1 avg, 289 total.
2) Polina Mogilevskaya (Moscow) - 24.2, 290
3) Elene Sukonnikova (Tolyatti) - 27.2, 326

Boys:
1) Evgeny Slivko (Moscow) - 25.2 - 302
2) Timur Ramazanov (Samara) - 25.3 - 303
3) Leonid Cheshkov (Moscow) - 25.5 - 306.

The best players will be included into the Youth National team to participate in the Youth World Championships 2016 in Bischofshofen in August this year.

Thanks to Evgeny Kaplun for contributing details to this story and for Golf.ru for use of their article.

Note: This article was corrected on 5-16 to reflect the proper 3rd place for the girls. Please excuse the error.
