There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

Smith Keeps on Rolling/VESPAS Take Doubles Title

Smith Keeps on Rolling/VESPAS Take Doubles Title

Michael Smith's name on top of a leaderboard shouldn't shock anyone by now. After setting records for winning after the World Crazy Golf Championship, Smith's back at it with a win at the Cambridgeshire and Essex Minigolf Club Open 2016, held on July 16th at the Dunton Hills Family Golf Centre.

A field of 36 players attempted to dethrone Smith but the three round tournament proved too much for the competition. Three very consistent rounds in the low 40's (127 total) gave Smith a 9 stroke advantage by the end of the tournament. It was especially impressive given the average score for the field was in the high 40's and low 50's. Steve Lovell took 2nd place and Mark Wood completed the podium in 3rd place.

The next day saw the British Doubles Championship played on the same course and it was the first time Dunton Hills hosted the event. After finishing 2nd in their group in round robin play, team VESPAS (Steve Lovell & Nuno Cunha) rolled through the bracket to beat team GEMINIGOLF 2nd (Ruth Burke & Steve Sturdy) in the finals. Michael Smith also found his way onto the podium in this tournament as his team with Rocky Bullin (UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE) took 3rd place.

Thanks again goes to the BMGA for the tournament information and the Kent Minigolf Club for their Flickr albums.

One of the reasons miniature golf is so popular is that it can be played by almost anyone. Many charities have realized this appeal and have turned to miniature golf events, versus more traditional "big" golf outings to help raise funds. These events usually are ...

As we've shown recently, miniature golf can be many things - art, architecture, compliments to food - but one thing it is at it's core is educational. Kids might be on their summer break right now but they don't need to stop learning. The sport of minigolf is a ...

A perfect 18. It's the minigolfer's dream regardless of the style you play. To shoot one is an accomplishment on par with (and probably more difficult than) a 300 game in bowling but to be able to do it in competition is a rare thing. In Putt Putt competition ...
