Bischofshofen, Austria – The best youth minigolfers in the world return to Bischofshofen for the 2016 Youth World Championships - one of the main worldwide minigolf events of the year. The players got a preview of the courses during the U23 Nations Cup held in May and now they will start putting again on August 10. Nine countries will be represented by the 74 participants registered to play at both the concrete and miniaturegolf 18-hole courses. Participants must be 19 years old or younger to compete in this tournament. The Germans are sending one of the largest contingents as they look to repeat their domination in the Under 23 tournament where they had top honors in the male, female and team categories. Italy returns to the Youth World Championships for the first time since 2011 and look to have their name in the running.

Four rounds of competition are scheduled for the first day, alternating between the two courses, and the team competition will wrap up on August 11 with four more rounds. On August 12 the individual stroke play championships will conclude and set the table for the top males and females to finish the weekend with the match play championships on August 13. A big question will be how the weather impacts play as it did with the U23 Nations Cup and there is rain in the forecast.

The city of Bischofshofen is located about 50km south of Salzburg and is best known for the final of the Four Hills Tournament in ski jumping. But minigolf also has a long tradition in Bischofshofen and this tradition continues with this major international event. MGC ASKÖ Bischofshofen (sponsoring hosting club) was founded in 1984 and has two courses. The Concrete course was built in 2001 and the Miniaturegolf course was built in 2008.

The World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) is the umbrella organization of 57 Minigolf sports association's worldwide with continental associations in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. There are more than 38,000 competitive minigolf players registered with the WMF via the 57 member nations, with 900-plus clubs between them. Over 1,000 courses are approved for official competitions and around 1,500 minigolf tournaments held each year.
