The young new North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, is reported by South Korean media to have a particular and surprising interest for Minigolf. According to JoongAng Daily he has big plans for minigolf in North Korea and is he looking for places to build minigolf courses.
It’s reported that he during a recent trip to Rungna People’s Pleasure Ground, an amusement park, made comments on details in the Minigolf course and suggested this to be implemented on other locations as well.
The South Korean newspaper also points towards a curious document shown in a recently released documentary. The title of the document was “Report on the Procedure of Building Mini-Golf Equipment", the document reportedly featured hand-drawn plans by Kim himself.
In the report, Kim wrote that the landscapers for the Rungna amusement park should “plant trees between each golf facility for providing shade.” He has also drawn pictures of people taking a break in the shades.
He also stressed in the report the need to create a golf-ball rental service and arrange for places to dry wet golf equipment and clothing.
Little is known about the motivation to his interest but speculations point on the fact that he is educated in Switzerland, one of the leading Minigolf countries in the world as one potential source.
