Win a major minigolf championship once and people pay attention to you. Win a major minigolf championship four times and there's a good chance the world knows your name. Become the winningest British "major" minigolfer of all time - well that's one for the recordbooks. Michael Smith did just that on June 11-12 as he captured his fourth World Crazy Golf Championship and his ninth British "major" of his career.
Seventy-one players from five countries competed in this year's World Crazy Golf Championship, which is held annually at Hastings Adventure Golf. This year the event was moved from its traditional October slot to the summer weekend. Seven rounds were played over two days and Smith emerged victorious with a 233, winning by 4 strokes.
Continuing the "firsts" at this tournament, it was the first with the first dedicated prize fund for "novices" in their first or second World Crazy Golf Championship (excluding pros) and Sean Homer was the first BMGA minigolfer to play in 100 BMGA stroke play tournaments.
