Shh...Library Minigolf - Part 2

In Part 1 of this series, we started our look at a growing trend of libraries using miniature golf as a fundraising tool. Since that first article went out we've gathered information on many more of these events, all within the United States at this time. In the article below, we'll look back at the success of two events and then recap two upcoming events.

Our
first article is from Elkin, North Carolina. This event wasn't a charity event but rather a way to get kids involved in the library by giving them an opportunity to build and play a course. The children had a half hour to build their holes and were encouraged to not only use old items from the library but other recycled materials as well. It really shows that you can turn just about anything into a minigolf hole!

The
second article is from Unalaska, Alaska and is another example of home-grown holes being built in the library. This time the staff devised the holes for everyone to play. This article includes a great video that highlights not only some of the cool obstacles built and the creative materials used, but captures some of the action of playing the course.

Next up are the upcoming events we wanted to share with you. We fully encourage you to stop by if you are in the area. The more people who support these kinds of events and actively promote them, the better chance we'll have of seeing more of them in the future. The
first event is out of Melrose, Massachusetts and is being held the weekend of January 28th. This event is similar to other library minigolf events we've seen where there is an adult night complete with a bar and food and a family friendly time the next day to cater to multiple groups of participants. Funds raised during this event will go to a variety of programs.

The same weekend in another part of the United States (Yorkville, Illinois), is where the
second event is being held. Theirs is a one day event and is the fourth annual installment of the event at this library. Funds raised during this event will go specifically to children's programs and the purchase of books.
