Rhyn wins Internationale Hallenmeisterschaft

Switzerland 15 Dec 2010 at 17:30 | Published by: Hans | Views: 10211 | News search

Rhyn wins Internationale Hallenmeisterschaft Four weeks after the 30-hours-tournament the IHM (Internationale Hallenmeisterschaft) was played in the Grindelhalle in Bassersdorf last weekend. A total of 104 players participated in the tourmament, which had 6 qualification rounds and two final rounds for the best 50%.

In the ladies category Sonja Viatte was leading after the 6 qualification rounds, but with strong finnish of 49 in the last two rounds European Champion Rebecca Weber won at 213 (26,6) two shots before German player Claudia Hengstler who played also a very good 51. Sonja was finnaly on 3rd place after a finnishing 55.

The men´s category was dominated by the World Champion of 2005, Michel Rhyn, and the winner of many Tournaments in Grindelhalle, Vitus Spescha. Vitus won this tournament last year with an unbelievable average of 23,5 but this year he had a bad start with 27 in average in the four rounds on Saturday. On Sunday he started with 24, 26, 24 and was then only two shots behind Michel. And on the last round Vitus played a strong 23, but Michel, who played in the same group, answered with an even better 22 and won with 3 shots. On third place came Roland Schnyder six shots behind Vistus.

In senior ladies there was a battle about the win between Esther Wicki and Heidi Stricker. Heidi played 24 in the last round but 28 was enough for Esther to win with 1 shot.

A sudden death was needed to decide the winner in the seniors male categorie. Bernhard Kreutter won on the first lane over his team-mate from 30-hours-tournament Heinz Fischer. After 16 lanes of the last round both where also even with Norbert Nolte, leader by 1 before the last round, but they made an ace on 17 and got to the sudden death whilst Norbert made a two.

Norbert´s team mate, finnish Marko Nuotio, was very unlucky. His club was lost on the flight from Helsinki to Zürich and he had to buy a new noname club from the shop in Grindelhalle. Training seemed was very good with this club but then he started the tournament with an awful round of 33. After that he was the best senior in the last seven rounds and finished on the 5th place.

The junior categories were won by Beat Wartenweiler and Melanie Huber both with some shots before their pursuers.
