The most important event of the Italian winter season has been played in Vedano indoor concrete course this weekend.
It has been a great international tournament as usual, with 48 pairs coming from Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, France and Portugal.
As usual in Vedano we have seen some very low scores and many "blue" rounds (29 in total).
Two players equalized the course record with 21 strokes: Cristian Pinton (with 2 at lanes 12, 16,17) and Paolo Porta (with 2 at lanes 1, 12, 13). Cristian really had the chance to beat the record, being -14 after 15 lanes!
The fight for the victory has been reserved to three pairs: Cristian Pinton / Roberto Mariani, Anna Bandera / Sara Marchiani and Claudio Santopietro / Pierluigi Marchiani (winner of the last edition).
The victory went to the team Pinton / Mariani thanks to an impressive performance of Cristian Pinton who scored 118 strokes in 5 rounds (23,6 average, with 4 "blue" and only one "green round - 24/24/25/21/24). Cristian also setted the new course record on 2 rounds with 45 strokes.
The ladies team formed by Anna Bandera and Sara Marchiani mantained the lead of the tournament until 8th round but they could do nothing again the last two impressive rounds by Cristian. They anyway got a 2nd place, which is the first time podium for an "all-ladies" team in this tournament. Expecially a great performance by Sara which got an average of 24,6 in 5 rounds with the ladies course record on 1 and 2 rounds.
The title holders Marchiani / Santopietro could only get a 3rd place this year.
In 4th place we have the best foreign team of the tournament: Katerina Tietzova / Günther Inmann . They really played a great tournament, being the first time in Vedano for both of them. Expecially Günther, who played an excellent average of 25,6.
Another foreign team that got a good result is Sascha Mark / Christopher Jäck . They has been close to the top during the first rounds, when Christopher played 5 rounds with 25,4 average, but suffered a not great day by Sascha and ended 7th.
A very high level tournament with 21 pairs below 28 average. » Complete results
