Warren conquers PPA Western Open with final round 22

Frank Warren won PPA Western Open in Memphis, Tennessee, on 16-17 April 2011 with average score 25.88 after eight competition rounds. Warren scored the last round 22 to secure the victory in a tight battle against Andy Coradini (2nd place, 2 points behind Warren) and Wade Shamel (3rd place, 3 points behind Coradini).

Western Open was the first tournament of 2011 PPA National Tour, which includes four regional Open tournaments (Western, Eastern, Northern, Southern) and ends with the PPA National Championships on 12-16 September, which will offer total 35,000 USD prize money to the top 30 players, of which 3,000 USD goes to the winner.

JJM, most players show up for practice 2-7 days before the first event of the week. There are 'warm-up' tournaments leading up to our National Championship. We play a doubles tournament on Monday, the proputters.com tournament on Tuesday, the Tournament Players Championship on Wednesday and the National Championship is Thursday and Friday. There is plenty of time for practice- most players will spend 7-12 days at the tournament site. We would enjoy having Europeans come and play too.

This competition looks interesting, but a quite unusual thing is that the minigolf courses are not free for practice on the week preceding the tournament, it is reserved for other tournaments on the week. It is a bit challenging to imagine the practical side of this, taking 2 x 18 minigolf courses fully under control, including making some putting maps, normally takes 4 long days of 8 - 10 hours each. This practice time seems not to be available directly before the tournament, so one would have to do it 4 - 7 days before the tournament, which makes the travel longer and more expensive.

The prize money estimations by JJM are not correct for the PPA National Championship. The Total purse will be $35,000 and it is likely that first place will be $5,000. The total number of spots paid will likely be based on participation, but however it is broken down, it will add up to $35,000.
