Mainz gets double lead in German Bundesliga

Germany 05 May 2008 at 08:20 | Published by: JJM | Views: 7040 | News search

Mainz gets double lead in German Bundesliga Half of the German Bundesliga season behind, MGC Mainz has taken the lead both in men and women. Dormagen-Brechten breathes two points behind them in men’s league, and Hardenberg-Pötter on third place is quite sensationally 10 points behind. Women’s competition is a tight battle between the three big Mainz, Neutraubling and Göttingen.

Uwe Ludwig was the best player of the third league weekend, with average score 20.00 (20 21 18 21) at the eternite course of Rheinstetten-Mörsch. But unfortunately Hardenberg had placed him as the reserve player, turning a potential victory into a disappointing third place behind Mainz and Dormagen-Brechten.

Thought to be unsinkable (having won the league 9 times in a row), Hardenberg has hit unexpected icebergs in every competition of the season. 10 points behind Mainz and 8 points behind Dormagen-Brechten, their mathematical chances for keeping the champion title are fading away. Winning the last three competitions will not be enough, they also need to hope (or help) Arheilgen or Bochum to steal from Mainz and Dormagen-Brechten as many points as possible...

The best female player in the competition was Jessica Werkmann of Neutraubling, with an average score 22.00 (23 20 22 23). The unlucky soldier of the weekend was Henri Salewski of SG Arheilgen, whose 30 points in the last round sank Arheilgen from the first place to fourth place, in the tight last-round battle between four leading teams.
