Steffi Blendermann and Dennis Kapke win German Championship

The German Championship took place on the eternit and concrete courses in Künzell from the 2nd to 5th of July. Künzell is located in the middle of Germany near Fulda in the Federal State Hessen. On the first two days there were 4 preliminary combination rounds to play (one round on eternit, one on concrete, in turns) to qualify for the final rounds on the 3rd day and the matchplay play-offs on the last day. Two intermediate and one final combination rounds decided the strokeplay champions. On the last day the best 32 men and 16 women played the play-offs in matchplay to decide the matchplay champions.

This year the Federal States Cup was integrated into the Championship. Every Federal State could form a team of 5 players, and the first 8 rounds counted for the team competition. At least one woman had to be part of each team. The team from Hessen won the Federal States Cup in front of Northrhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. This is not surprising as Künzell is located in the Federal State Hessen.

The women's category saw Stefanie Blendermann from Olten (a Swiss club) as the strokeplay champion with 330 (ø concrete 25.6, ø eternit 21.6). Anne Bollrich from Mainz came 2nd with 336 (ø concrete 26.7, ø eternit 21.3). The World Champion Bianca Zodrow from Göttingen reached the 3rd place with 339 (ø concrete 26.0, ø eternit 22.4). Last year's champion Antje Kalkbrenner reached the 13th place.

The strokeplay competition in the men's category was like a club championship of Arheilgen. The best 4 players come from Arheilgen and play for their Bundesliga team. The leading trio are all international Champions. The matchplay World Champion Dennis Kapke won with 322 (ø concrete 25.2, ø eternit 20.9). The strokeplay World Champion Achim Braungart-Zink came 2nd with 323 (ø concrete 25.2, ø eternit 21.0), followed by the World Adventure Golf Champion Oleg Klassen with 327 (ø concrete 26.2, ø eternit 20.6). Last year's champion Alexander Geist from Hardenberg didn't play.

In the matchplay play-offs Anne Bollrich and Bianca Zodrow reached the semifinal which Bianca won. Anne then won her match for the 3rd place. The strokeplay Champion Stefanie Blendermann was beaten in the 2nd round by Claudia Weinzierl from Olching, who then reached the final and beat Bianca in a sudden death play-off. So the new matchplay Champion is Claudia Weinzierl.

In the men's category the outcome of the matchplay play-offs was completely different to strokeplay. None of the top trio players reached the semifinal. The 1st semifinal was Robert Hahn from Ludwigshafen versus Sebastian Kube from Dormagen-Brechten, won by Robert Hahn. Martin Stöckle from Hamburg-Niendorf won the 2nd semifinal against Sebastian "Brezel" Heine from Wesel, who then won the match for the 3rd place in a sudden death play-off. So the final was Robert Hahn versus Martin Stöckle, won by Martin, who is the new matchplay Champion. Last year's matchplay Champion Harald Erlbruch didn't play.
