Oceanport, NJ - The U.S. Open returns to Bluegrass Miniature Golf in Oceanport, NJ, USA this coming weekend July 21st and 22nd. The course previously hosted the U.S. Open in 2014 and once again the tournament will be held on the "green" course with 10 total rounds played between the two days. The course is located at Monmouth Park horse track so it's themed with horse racing in mind. It is the 20th running of this tournament and as of the writing of this article there are 48 registered players across the divisions.
While the field is smaller than the 2016 tournament, it is extremely deep with players from 13 states and the Czech Republic. In the field are many former U.S. Open winners including Danny McCaslin and Olivia Prokopova, who is also coming off a win at the World Crazy Golf Championship in the UK last month. The field also includes Matt McCaslin who won the U.S. Open the last time it was played at Bluegrass and Joey Graybeal who won the U.S. Open last year at Putt U. In addition, several of the folks who will be representing Team USA at the World Adventure Golf Masters in September in Croatia will be competing for the Open Championships.
The purse for the tournament stands at $12,700 with $3,500 going to the winner and payments being made down to 30th place. The U.S. Open is one of the two showcase tournaments for the USPMGA, with the other being the Masters in October. The course is a par 40 adventure golf style course but scores are expected to be in the mid-to-high 30s for most players. The winning score from the 2014 tournament was an average of 34.9.
