Top-class results and surprising victory in Vedano
Top pairs in Vedano  (Photo by Nicola Bellucci)

The first tournament in 2009 of the Italian season, 12 hours pair marathon at the indoor course in Vedano al Lambro, offered some very high level results and some surprises.

50 pairs from 8 countries (Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Finland, France, Norway and Czech Republic) took part in this tournament, that started at 1.30 am and ended at around 4 pm after all pairs played 10 rounds.

The indoor concrete course in Vedano is a popular place to spend the winter practicing. This of course making some of the "home" players top-favourite because they know how to play this course really well.

Despite the hard practice of those pairs, the victory went to the "away" players. Matteo Pirovano and Gioacchino Ricchiuto, both from MGC Novi Ligure, took a very impressive victory with a total score of 256 (25.60 average). This total was enough to have a 4 strokes lead over the first "home" pair Antonio Di Bella and Michele Graffeo, that got a total score of 260 (26.00 average).

Antonio Di Bella setted an impressive last round with 21 shots, equalizing the course record. During that round he only scores a 2 on lane 2, 6 and 7.

One of the top-favourite pairs to take the gold, Cristian Pinton (MC Monza) and Marco Ambrosini (GSP Vergiate) ended up in 3rd position. They scored a total of 266 strokes (26.00).

Other pairs who ended up just beside the podium were:
4. Paolo Porta and Nicola Bellucci (MGC Novi Ligure / ASDMC Follonica) 267
5. Rudi Giroldini and Francesco Leuci (GSP Vergiate / MT Amatese) 268

The best foreign pair, Sasha Mark and Chistopher Jack from Germany took the 8th place with a total score of 272.

Other foreign pairs at the competition:
15. Lars Kvael and Kjiel Nihus (Norway) 278
16. Bruno Ruch and Roger Cadosch (Switzerland) 279

A total of 5 players ended up with an average of below 26.00. Besides that a large amount of 25 blue rounds were played (24 or lower).

The best individual score in the womens class was played by Anna Bandera (MC Monza) with 130 strokes in 5 rounds (26.00 average).
The best individual score in the junior class was played by Lorenzo Bellucci (ASDMC Follonica) with 132 strokes in 5 rounds (26.40 average).
The best foreign player was Ivan Baruscotti, from Switzerland but playing for GSP Vergiate, with 128 strokes in 5 rounds (25.60 average).

Thanks nikke ;-)
You played really well too, being your first time in Vedano! I'm only sorry for my first bad/unlucky round...
I think next year we could aim to the podium!
