The lottery for pairings of British Matchplay Championships 2009 was done in live Internet broadcast on 27 January 2009. These are the pairings for the 16 matches of first competition round:

James Trubridge vs Peter Emmerson
Elliott Ward vs Andy Exall
Anthony Pope vs Matt Wood
Seve Kukielka vs Jas Kukielka
Marc Chapman vs Rocky Bullin
Keith Kellard vs Terry Exall
Gareth Holmes vs Ruth Bullin
Chris Harding vs Alan Norman
Sean Homer vs Tim Davies
Trevor Robertson vs Martin Robertson
John Moore vs Den Exall
Brad Shepherd vs Marion Homer
Phil Exall vs Richard Gottfried
Ted McIver vs Leo Kukielka

These first round matches must be played before 31 May 2009 (on any day and minigolf course agreed by the two players). The winner continues to second round, and the loser falls out of the competition.

The tournament will last all summer season, until late autumn 2009. The players are not seeded (arranged to pairs in ranking order), and a cup schedule is not used in this tournament. The pairings of every match round will be chosen by a new lottery.
