Sweden wins U23

Switzerland 15 Feb 2009 at 18:20 | Published by: Hans | Views: 8927 | News search

Sweden wins U23 This weekend a U23 national Team competition was played in Sirnach, Switzerland, on indoor eternit. 3 teams from Switzerland, 2 from both Germany and Sweden and one from Italy participated. The main reason for these competitions is for the countries to get some tests on over-aged juniors that might have and a hard time taking a place in their countries general class teams. All participating teams should have at least one girl, but Sweden has chosen to participate with 2 girls and 2 boys in each team.

On Saturday all team meet each others in matches where won lanes counted instead of results. After that the result was that all countries had 1 team each into the best four and therefore also into the semifinals. Best during Saturday was Germany 1 on 11 points. Second was Italy on 9 points and then Switzerland 1 on 8 points and Sweden 1 on 7 points.

In the first Semifinal Switzerland 1 was beating Italy 1 with 26-23 lane wins on two rounds (178-181 in strokes). In the second Semifinal Sweden was taking a surprisingly win against Germany 1 with 20-16 (176-179 in strokes). In the finals Sweden was making the process short with Switzerland after an excellent 172 round against 182 for Switzerland (25-21 in won lanes).

Best individually among the boys where Denis Kapke, Germany with 20,9 in average and Melanie Blaser, Switzerland with 21,5 in average.

Some very impressive individual results indeed, congratulations to the winners! Nice also to see Italy reaching semi finals with improving performance as the competition went on!

It started some years ago as an invitation from Germany to some selected nations. So it is a "private" tournament, not any official EMF-WMF supported tournament.

congrats to sweden :)

how come this tournament isn't an open tournament, but an invitation tournament ? not that I think that we would send a team anyway, just out of curiousity
