Carvalho and Pinheiro in top in Portugal

Portugal 02 Mar 2009 at 08:54 | Published by: Hans | Views: 6509 | News search

Carvalho and Pinheiro in top in Portugal The Portuguese National Championship of 2009 was playing its first of 3 weekends ending on Sunday. The Championships plays 3 rounds of concrete and 3 rounds of Eternit each of the 3 weekends, ending up in 18 rounds altogether. The first weekend was played in Porto, gathering 88 players, and was also dominated by the home club of CM Porto.

In the men's class the leader is Pedro Carvalho on 150 strokes, same results as Antonio Manuel from MC Portugal. Pedro started this competition real bad with a 26 on eternit, but was playing much better after that. In third place and one stroke behind was Nuno Cunha, FC Vizela.

In the ladies class the field was dominated by Manuela Pinheiro, CM Porto on 156 strokes. She was 13 strokes in front of her team mate Juventina Silva.

The domination of the home club was maybe most visible in the Mens Senior class where 8 of the nine first was from the home club. The senior's classes are extra interesting this year in Portugal since they for the first time are arranging a Seniors Championship in Lamego.

The next weekend is in Lisbon next month in the same place of EC 2006. This is the course where Anders Olsson was setting his world record of 20, but now the beton course is so different and so much more difficult that 20 would be consider a miracle.
