Björn Dinau of Sweden was the sovereign winner in our public vote for Photo of the Year 2008. The winning photo is a dark silhouette of a minigolf player against the evening sky, taken at British Open 2008.

Each voter gave 10 points to the best photo, 9 points to the second best photo, and so on, until 1 point was given to the 10th best photo. Björn Dinau’s photo received 386 points from the 58 voters (67 % of the theoretical maximum 58 x 10 points).

Places 2 — 4 in the vote went to active minigolf photographers John Mittler (275 points), Walter Teupe (250 points) and Arto Borg (240 points). The architect of Sochi minigolf course in Russia can congratulate himself with the 5th place in this vote: 191 points to the photo taken by Yevgeni Kaplun.

Our forum users nominated 20 different photographers to the vote, in a public discussion before the vote was started. We included in the poll one photo from each of these 20 photographers.
