WMF teaches minigolf in Turkey and Northern Cyprus

Cyprus 12 Mar 2009 at 19:48 | Published by: agcampos | Views: 5445 | News search

WMF teaches minigolf in Turkey and Northern Cyprus Turkey and Northern Cyprus have taken another step to be a Minigolf nation.

Victor Condeço and Anabela Pereira, of Portugal, held a two days session with around 60 participants. This happened in a new course held in a University in the Northern Cyprus. The participants were the i.e. the head of the Northern Cyprus University Sports Federation, sports teachers from Turkey, teachers from Cyprus and students. They were taught both theoretical and practical things. The program was constituted by four hours of theory, two hours of practice. Partly the practice was held inside due to a strong wind outside but there were also classes outside. The session ended with a small Minigolf tournament on the second day.

Ebru Atalay, from Turkey, showed great gratitude to the WMF board and especially to Victor and Anabela for sponsoring this event. As a next step Turkey are now interested in international participations during 2009, but also in having certificated teachers and coaches.

This is politically at least as hot issue as China-Taiwan. Therefore JJM's statement is not quite correct.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus is de jure including the whole island and thus the whole island is a member of the EU. De facto the northern part is Turkish mentally and according to many opinions as well. But not according to all, including the one of EU. Therefore to claim that only the southern part is EU member is incorrect.

Greetings from Turkey!

I received a comment about this:

The island of Cyprus is divided in two parts. The southern part is called "Cyprus": it is a member of European Union and WMF.

The workshop mentioned in this article took place in the northern part of Cyprus, which is politically more close to Turkey. Turkey is a candidate for WMF membership.

Turkey is a candidate also for European Union membership. Time will tell how the different parts of Turkey and Cyprus will be politically classified in the future.
