WMF officials playing MOS

World 27 Apr 2009 at 15:29 | Published by: Hans | Views: 4455 | News search

WMF officials playing MOS This weekend some high WMF officials are gathering in Gothenburg, Sweden to study the way Minigolf is played on MOS and artificial Grass. Some will also participate in the competition.

Said Morell, casshier of WMF, has invited some of his fellow WMF board members to the 2nd international MOS competition held in Askim, Slottskogen the 2nd and 3rd of May. Roger Cadosch of Switzerland has accepted Saids invitation and will join and also play the competition. WMFs Sport Director, Gerhard Zimmerman, will possibly also travel to Gothenburg but since he is not an active player anymore he will only study the game. Said is also hoping for the WMF President, Kjell Henriksson, himself to turn up and play. Kjell is living in the Gothenburg Area but is seldom playing anymore.

MOS is not that big in Sweden so far but Said is hoping that this years tournament will bring more players than last years. Last years winner, Pauli Kuikka BGK Laxen, will turn up this year again as well as last years runner up, ex EMF President Hans Bergström.

Said is also planning to try out a new version of the online result system called spike. This version is using Apple iPods as input for results using a Wireless LAN on the course.

The opening shot in Slottskogen is defintively not a formality. On many of the courses its a vital shot in order to avoid a high score on that lane and maybe put yourself in position for a two putt. An easy two doesnt exist in slottskogen. Aces are very rare, but since the twos feels like aces I dont care that much.

A positive step that WMF leaders are interested in MOS. This Slottskogen course does not represent a typical MOS course, though... very different in style and playability than 99% of MOS courses in the world.

At Slottskogen course, the opening shot is often only a formality, a putt forward, without any chances to score a hole-in-one, or even to get the ball near the hole.

Many competition players, including me, feel that this is not the most interesting direction for the game. I personally prefer such MOS course designs, where a hole-in-one is always possible without hitting any walls, but the passages are very narrow and risky.
