Chris Jones took the winner’s trophy at British Masters 2009, with average score 18.00 per round (2.00 points per lane) at the two 9-lane adventure golf courses of Adventure Island minigolf center in Southend-on-Sea.

Andy Exall was second, 4 points behind Jones, with average 19.00 per round (2.11 points per lane).

One point behind Andy Exacll came Jon Angel, Brad Shepherd and Kevin Moseley in tied points, with average 19.25 per round (2.14 points per lane).

Many minigolf courses in Great Britain have less than 18 holes, typically 9 holes (as is customary in golf, where “front nine” courses of 9 holes are accepted for competition use, if played twice to count one competition round of 18 played holes).

Adventure golf courses are usually played from at least one wall (typically the backside of green). British MOS courses have walls of quite good quality, but American adventure golf courses often have worn-out bricks. Some Scandinavian minigolf companies are moving towards no-wall-game designs (no walls at all, or then unplayable irregular walls).

The photo is a bit misleading Jacco, there's no straight route to that hole as the ball runs to the right, so you have to rely on a rebound, as you do on most holes at Southend. The borders there are not as smooth as others in the UK, sometimes you get a bad bounce which is annoying but part of the fun!

Thnks. so even tough its mostly straight to the hole yourre still using the stones to let a bal bounce a certain way ?? the picture shows that the stones are a little rough

Hi JS!
I used a 3d putter with the mid green rubber (cheers Pasi), I noticed a few more 3d putters as well as many other makes, quite a few Nifo & Maier Guns too. Some players used a standard rubber headed course putter. Jon Angel used a Nifo Double which is possibly the best club at Southend as sometimes you get to play awkward shots which would be easier left-handed, but not many Uk courses have this problem!
As for balls, I used 6 different to not confuse myself! They were a Clicker, A Dodo (0 bounce), Planet Hastings Pirate, Tampere Ball & a low bounce 3d ball as well as a Maier Pitbull. At most UK courses I personally use 5 or 6 balls, with the exception of Margate, (venue for the British Open), where I use 10.
