Trubridge and McIver win British Doubles Championships

United Kingdom 16 Jun 2009 at 20:43 | Published by: JJM | Views: 7149 | News search

Trubridge and McIver win British Doubles Championships James Trubridge and John McIver won British doubles championships 2009 at the adventure golf course of Boscombe Chine Gardens, by beating Sean and Marion Homer in the final match.

The competition followed the format of a typical soccer or ice hockey major tournament: the participating 17 teams (pairs) were split into four preliminary groups, which played a match against every opponent in the same group, receiving 2 points for a victory and 1 point for a tied game.

Two best teams of each preliminary group continued to knock-out finals for places 1 - 8, and the rest of teams continued with knock out matches for places 9 - 17.

Small correction to the above text - the winners of each match in the group stages receive 3 points, not 2. The groups are also unseeded which adds an extra degree of excitement to the competition (the lack of seeds is also used in the Matchplay competition draw as well).
