Young marathon winner in Trollhättan

Sweden 03 Jul 2009 at 20:31 | Published by: Nimalu | Views: 6626 | News search

Young marathon winner in Trollhättan Last wednesday, the yearly "Semestermaran" was played in Trollhättan in the western part of Sweden. The competition is played on a rather difficult eternite course over 12 rounds, starting at 7 in the morning and was played first time back in 1976. This years tournament was played in a temperatur of 30 degrees and was finished at 21.30 in the evening, so it really was a marathon worth its name.

As the final 3 rounds were about to start, three of the favorites were at top of the scoreboard, Andreas Frejborn, BGK Laxen (winner 2007), Anders Bäckström, Trollhättan BGK (home club favorite) and some strokes behind, Martin Lundell, Gullbergsbro BGK (6-time winner). However, they didn't count with young (18 years) Eirik Seljelid from Kungälvs BGK, who scored a fantastic 21-20-19 on the last rounds. As a result of this, he was a winner already as he aced lane 18 last round, since none of the others could catch up with his average score of 22,3.

Second was Andreas Frejborn (22,4) and third was Anders Bäckström (22,6).

By the way, this is the first time for several years (maybe first time ever?) that the tournament is won by a junior player. Mattias Ståhl, Kungälvs BGK, who was 2nd in the competition not less than 6 times without winning, has to wait yet another year for his first victory.
