Geist and Rahmlow rule at German Championships

The best players of German Bundesliga season 2008-2009, Alexander Geist and Gabriele Rahmlow, proved the level of their game at German Championships 2009 in Künzell.

Alexander Geist was alone on blue total score in the competition (always a notable achievement in combination of felt and eternite), with average 27.60 on felt and 21.60 on eternite. Miroslav Stoparic was second best player in men, 8 points behind Geist, with average 29.20 on felt and 21.60 on eternite. Walter Erlbruch was third best in preliminary rounds, 2 points behind Stoparic, with average 30.00 on felt and 21.20 on eternite. Harald Erlbruch was fourth best, 1 point behind Walter, with average 30.20 on felt and 21.20 on eternite.

The scores of best men and best women are usually quite close to each other at beton and eternite competitions, but the felt course of Künzell proved too heavy for the playing technique of German female players. The average scores of women were generally some 5 points per round higher than the scores of men.

International minigolf legend Gabriele Rahmlow was sovereign in women’s competition, with average 33.20 on felt and 21.40 on eternite. Alice Kobisch was second best in women’s preliminary rounds, 8 points behind Rahmlow, with average 32.00 on felt and 24.20 on eternite. Nicole Warnecke was third best with average 32.80 on felt and 24.00 on eternite. The strongest female player of this decade, Bianca Oberweg, did not participate in the competition.

After two days of strokeplay competition, the third competition day was to dedicated to matchplay. Marco Henning won men’s final match against Marcel Noack. Miroslav Stoparic won the bronze match against Marco Templin. Nicole Warnecke won women’s final match against Gabriele Rahmlow. Claudia Wittke won the bronze match against Nicole Piechotta.

This competition included a rare sport achievement: blue total score in combination of felt and eternite. Not so many players in the world have ever achieved that. This is a sport media, so I usually focus the text and photos on sport achievements.

If you open the daily Swedish newspaper, I think you will notice that the title and main photo of sport news often show somebody else than the winner, if something else in the competition was more important or interesting for the news editor.

Picture and alot of text about the leaders after preliminary rounds, but only one sentence about the winner of the cup, (the german champions)..? I know the author:s opinion about cup-play..but isn´t this a serious news-site????
give us your own opinions in your blogg and your forum!!!
you can do ALOT better JJM!

This is the reason why some minigolf leaders believe in matchplay: it gives big surprises. But somewhere goes a line between a big surprise and a total farce.

I guess the German Champions 2009 are the winner after matchplay day...Congratulations to them!
But it surely has to be mentioned that the best player by far from the stroke tournament was kicked out at the 8/finals and this is the second time that it happens, after EC in Tampere 2008.
Also among ladies Gaby Rahmlow was the best by far in stroke tournament and didn't manage to win.

The only sure thing of the matchplay system seems to be that the best player from the qualification rounds NEVER (or almost never) wins! :)

Which is the official German Championship? Matchplay or regular rounds? If it is Matchplay I think the attention should be focussed on that......
