Junior player Oskari Vihervaara took the trophy of the best player of all categories at Finnish felt championships 2009, with average 34.67
at the difficult old NIFO course in Taivallahti, Helsinki.
Men’s winner Niko Tamminen was the second best of all players, with average 36.83 (quite massively 2.17 points per round behind Vihervaara). This is one of the greatest win margins between the best and second best player, in the history of Finnish national championships.
The diabolic quality of Vihervaara’s game can be estimated from the statistics of juniors category: silver medalist Pyry Väre lost 6.66 points per round to the winner, with average 41.33 (yes, this felt course is exactly so difficult). Matias Röj took bronze in juniors, with average 43.33. The most famous Finnish junior player of the moment, Aki Sillman, was left fourth in juniors with average 44.83.
Silver medal in men’s category went to Jukka Reunavuori, an experienced felt player with some gold medals from earlier years, with average 38.00 (7 points behind men’s winner Niko Tamminen). Joni Rintala got bronze with the same total score, after losing the sudden death play-off against Reunavuori. Two of the most successful Finnish felt players of this decade, Juha Wellenius and John Mittler, were away from the competition because of family reasons.
Mirva Juhola won women’s category with average 40.67, a fine score for this very difficult felt course. Yvonne Bartley was second with average 45.50, and Mia Paavola third with average 48.33.
Juha Lehto took gold in senior men with average 40.83, Jari Haapanen was second with average 41.33, and Göran Nordman third with average 43.33.
Hans-Eric Pettersson took gold in veterans, with average 40.83. Jussi Kuisma was second with average 41.00, one point behind the winner. Allan Luoto took bronze with average 43.67, after a tied score and sudden death play-off against Christian Poulsen.
Annikki Andreasson won female veterans category, with average 47.67. Monica Suonperä was second with average 49.00, and Anja Borg third with average 68.33.
Eetu Ikola won schoolboys with average 52.33, and Janne Paski was second with average 65.33. » results of the competition
