Rahmlow and Zengaffinen are the new senior European Champions. As usual the final day of the championship offered much drama for the players.

Starting with the men's competition at first the highly ranked seemed to also be unstoppable in the cup play. Tommy Blixt (Sweden), Francesco Leuci (Italy), Reinhard Schuster (Austria) and Claude Pochon (Switzerland) all won their matches at the first round. All but Claude also won the second round. But there it was stop for the top ranked. Tommy Blixt lost against Dieter Kauffman of Italy, Francesco Leuci lost to Heinz Bless of Switerland and Reinhard Schustre lost to another Reinhard, namely Zengaffinen from Switzerland. Notable is also that this was a bad day for the German gentlemen's. No one made it into the quarterfinals.

So in semifinal one Dieter Kauffman and Ronny Lundgren of Sweden met. This match was won by Kauffman who went into the finals as qualifying ranked 24. In Semifinal two there was a Swiss derby between Heinz Bless and Reinhard Zengaffinen. This was won by Zengaffinen who was ranked 6 in the qualifying rounds.

The final was won by Zengaffinen over Kauffman by 4-2. In the bronze game Bless won over Lundgren by 6-3 after having made a great comeback at the end of the game.

On the ladies side the dominating players from the first where Linda Lundberg of Sweden and Maria Fuschlberger of Austria. Linda met her destiny already in the first match against fellow countrymen Bernice Thors. Both are actually playing in the same club, Gullbergsbro, and will play together in the European Cup in October. Maria won the first game but them she was beaten in the quarterfinals by Andrea Reinicke of Germany.

In the semifinals Bernice Thors meet German legend Gaby Rahmlow and it was a match tha the German won fairly easy by 6-3. In the other semifinal Andrea Reinicke mede the Germans ladies making up for the failure of the men's by making the final all German. She won the semifinal against Austrias Franziska Trutschnig by convincing 6-2.

The all German final was a close game with few lanes won but at the end Gaby Rahmlow was strongest and took the gold. Silver to Andrea Reinicke and bronze to Bernice Thors. Bernice showed again a god cup player after last years silver.
