Weaver and Gustafsson are the new Champions
Sandra Weaver and Jonas Gustavsson gets a taste of Gold  (Photo by Hans Bergström 2009)

Sandra Weaver and Jonas Gustafsson both from Sweden are the new World Champions. After a long day of exiting matches finally the winners was to be decided. Both finals where real close matches with really good play.

In the ladies match Lisa Berger-Rella started in a furious style at the 9 felt courses, making 6 aces and two twos and a 4. Sandra Weaver was not also playing well and was only one lane behind when they entered the eternit. There Sandra managed to turn around the match after some missed from Lisa, making it 3 up for Sandra with 3 lanes to go. But Lisa refused to give up, and won both the Salto and lane 17 on two aces. So for Weaver it was just acing the last lane and the gold was hers. Easier said than done but Sandra made a perfect shot on the narrow Window and aces for her gold.

In the men’s final there were two Swedes. Sometimes a match between players from the same nation becomes a bit boring, but not this final. Both player, Filiph Svensson and Jonas Gustafsson really wanted to win and let that be showed in their behavior. It was no silence match to say the least. Both Jonas and especially Filiph can be quite load when making their aces. And plenty of aces were it. Filiph needed to ace the last 3 lanes on eternit after Jonas had played to stay in the match, and he did.

So it was a sudden death on felt. On lane one both made really good saves for two from more than half the lane. On lane two both made aces, to the relief of Swedish coach Joachim Sundlöf in charge for preparation of the ball. Then there was another tied two lanes and then the final moment came on the twin-gate. Jonas started and made an ace on this lane. When Filiph missed his attempt and made a two the match was over. Jonas was the Champion.

Below you can watch the final strokes in HD-quality.

More report about the bronze matches and the other matches will follow later tonight. Now off for the closing cermony.

Congratulations SWEDEN. It was magical to watch how you dominated and played on the felt course.
Im sure you expected to take all 4 gold medals, but to actually do it under that amount of pressure was fantastic.
I cant wait to get my hands on the BoF's that will be sold with your names. :-)
