Carlsson first to beat Kuikka

Sweden 02 May 2010 at 19:57 | Published by: Hans | Views: 6527 | News search

Carlsson first to beat Kuikka Magnus Carlsson is the only one that has ever beaten Pauli Kuikka at the Slottskogen MOS course (Gothenburg) in the final match play. Both 2008 and 2009 the winner after the match play has been Pauli. But this year the home junior got his victory after having lost to Pauli last year.

The results this year was in general a bit higher than last year. Even if the courses are quite well known by now it’s not easy to get a score under 40. This weekend no-one managed to do so.

On Saturdays qualification Pontus Svensson and Hans Bergström where ranked as 1 and 2. This meant that they didn’t have to play the first round and went direct into the quarter finals. Pontus won over his girlfriend Elin but Hans lost in a replay on the final from 2008 to Pauli Kuikka, who qualified as number seven on Saturday. Pauli then won against Thomas Sennerby in his semifinal and Magnus Carlsson won over Pontus Svensson in a tight match ending in Sudden Death.

The final was a strange match. Pauli had a nightmare start with 4-5 on the two first lanes and was 5 strokes after at once. But he got a bit closer and when Magnus had a terrible passage on lane 13-16 with 4-3-4-3Pauli took his chance and was 1 up with two lanes to go. But when Pauli did end with 3-3 Magnus could turn it around winning by one stroke after ending 2-2. The final result was 45-46 in this really strange match.
