Italia League: all on the same line

Italy 03 May 2010 at 22:17 | Published by:  | Views: 5007 | News search

Italia League: all on the same line The 2nd day of ITALIA League has been played on the difficult miniaturegolf course in Cusano Milanino.
After the 1st day, which was played in Vergiate 3 weeks ago (victory of GSP Vergiate in men's team category and GSP Cusano in ladies' team category), with very bad weather also the 2nd day risked to be played with difficult weather conditions.
Fortunately, all lanes were covered by tents and there had been just short moments of rain, so the tournament could run quickly and regularly. This is a very important edition of the league, because it will qualify the teams representing Italy at the European Team Cup 2011 in Vergiate.

As regards men teams, it was a very close match between 5 of 6 participating teams. GSP Vergiate, home team GSP Cusano, MC Monza, MT Amatese and MGC Novi Ligure played 4 rounds almost on the same level and the final results were decided only in the last lanes.
After 1st round, MGC Novi Ligure took the lead with 141 strokes, 6 better than GSP Vergiate. Home team GSP Cusano was back only in 4th place with 152 strokes. During 2nd round, Vergiate took the lead with a good 140 strokes-round, with MGC Novi Ligure in second place 3 strokes behind.
Great recovery of GSP Cusano during 3rd round, the home players setted the best round of the day with 133 strokes and took the lead in a very close ranking: 1 stroke better than MT Amatese, 3 better than MGC Novi Ligure and 7 better than GSP Vergiate.
4th round had been very exciting. GSP Vergiate tried to recover making a substitution (Rudi Giroldini, who was surprisingly place as substitute, replaced Michele Graffeo) but could only get 1 stroke worst than GSP Cusano. In the while, MT Amatese had a bad round and ended only in 5th place, also overtaken by MC Monza. In this very confused situation, the team with most clear ideas was MGC Novi Ligure, that with a round of 126 strokes took a very important victory to get back in the challenge for the final title (Novi Ligure was only 5th during first day in Vergiate).

This is the actual ranking situation of the men league after 2 days:

1. GSP Vergiate 19 pts.
2. GSP Cusano 18 pts.
3. MGC Novi Ligure 15 pts.
4. MT Amatese 10 pts.
5. MC Monza 10 pts.
6. Sudtirol Team 2 pts.

As regards ladies teams, GSP Cusano took the second victory out of 2 days. To be honest, the ladies tournament has not great history, after the transfer of the actual best italian female player, Anna Bandera, GSP Cusano has inside its team the best 3 italian ladies and the team tournament has no history at all. GSP Cusano won this day with 38 strokes advantage on the 2nd team, MC Monza, and 39 on the 3rd team, GSP Lozza.

These are the final team rankings of this day:

MEN TEAMS
1. MGC Novi Ligure 565 strokes (23.54 avg)
Geky Ricchiuto, Piero Porta, Matteo Pirovano, Lorenzo Ciompi, Nicola Bellucci, Paolo Porta (S: Lorenzo Bellucci)
2. GSP Cusano 570 strokes (23.75 avg)
Andrea Origgi, Paolo Belli, Rinaldo Foini, Claudio Santopietro, Emanuele Prestinari, Pierluigi Marchiani (S: Roberto Alemanno)
3. GSP Vergiate 571 strokes (23.79 avg)
Roberto Garbui, Marco Ambrosini, Domenico Garbui, Sergio Baruscotti, Michele Graffeo, Ivan Baruscotti (S: Rudi Giroldini)

LADIES TEAMS
1. GSP Cusano 285 strokes (23.75 avg)
Antonella Flamini, Sara Marchiani, Anna Bandera (S: Lauretta Prina)
2. MC Monza 323 strokes (26.91 avg)
Sara De Nardi, Silvia Bandera, Claudia Baio (S: Simona Antonelli)
3. GSP Lozza 324 strokes (27.00 avg)
Emilia Prina, Marzia Brianza, Anna Catanzaro (S: Luisa Cibin)

About individual results, the men category was won by Paolo Porta (MGC Novi Ligure with 87 strokes (23-22-21-21) after playoff with Boris Arzuffi (MT Amatese, same score, 22-23-20-22); 3rd place for Ivan Baruscotti (GSP Vergiate, 89) after playoff with Nicola Bellucci (MGC Novi Ligure)
The best in the ladies category was Sara Marchiani (GSP Cusano, 91 - 22/24/23/22), second place and third place for Sara's team mates Anna Bandera (92) and Antonella Flamini (102).

Third day of the league will be played in Novi Ligure (miniaturegolf) on 6th June.
