In a small but skilled field, the first annual Coventry Commonwealth Games Minigolf Tournament proved to be all that it was hyped to be. Jumping out to a one stroke lead Roanoke Putting Club (RPC) member Geoff Boyer skillfully negotiated the damp morning carpets to a seven under par 29. Following his first round success Boyer again bested the greens with an eight under par 28 to post a thirty six hole lead of 57. \r\n\r\nThe medal round however proved to be quite different with medal positions changing faster than horses on derby day. Thirty six hole leader Boyer went cold early leaving the door open for several contenders. Capitalizing upon the opening, RPC member and reigning US Open Amateur Champion Clayton Craft fired a ten under par 26 to take gold. Battling hard to the end Boyer held off the charging field to force a playoff for the silver and bronze medals. In the exciting playoff, Boyer returned to his previous form to capture the silver leaving Lynchburg native Wade Driskill with the bronze.\r\n\r\nThe Roanoke Putting Club and Virginia Amateur Sports, Inc. would like to thank David Mitchell and Putt-Putt Golf & Games for hosting the event and sponsors Dick’s Sporting Goods, Putt-Putt Golf & Games and Hot Shots Minigolf of Smith Mountain Lake for supplying some great prizes. \r\n\r\nFor more details contact www.commonwealthgames.org or www.roanokeputtingclub.com.

Star Hill Cup\r\n\r\nIn the annual matches between the Roanoke Putting Club (RPC) and the Lynchburg Putting Club (LPC) RPC took the crown. In Ryder Cup style RPC and LPC battled upon the newly configured Lynchburg course 1. In a mix of best ball, alternate shot, combined score and individual matches the two clubs remained close until the very end. With an ace upon the final hole of regulation, RPC prevailed in spectacular fashion. Congratulations to RPC members Dennis Biesma, Mark Smith, Troy Sarver, Geoff Boyer, James LeBrun and Clayton Craft.
