There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

Sweden 2 wins U23-Challenge

After yesterdays qualifications groups it was today time for the semifinals. In the first semifinal Sweden 1 was meeting Finland and won with 26-16. In the second semifinal Sweden 2 was meeting Germany 1 and won with 26-12. So after two quite easy Swedish victories in the semifinals it was time for an all-Swedish final.

In the match of third price it was much tighter but in the end Germany could secure the 3rd place by beating Finland with 22-20. In the other matches for 5-8 position Switzerland 1 won the match for 5th place over Austria 1.

In the final it was a close match all the way with quite furious play from the beginning. Filip Svensson in Sweden 1 started of the final with 7 straight aces and Thomas Öberg in Sweden 2 stared with 6 aces in the 8 first lanes. But all in the entire match was very tight all the way to the end. With 6 lanes to go it was 16-16 in the match. With 3 lanes to go it was 17-17. And with only one lane to go it was 18-18.

John Widlert of Sweden 2 aced and Filip Svenson made a two giving Sweden 2 the final victory by 19-18.

Best individually today was again Sweden 2:s staring-man Derice Shumilov Susoho with 55 strokes. He was far better than anyone else today. Best single round was made today by Germanys Sascha Spreier with a 25 round.

In total the best individuals were:

Women
1. Karin Heschl
2. Maja Wicki
3. Frida Elmdahl

Men
1. Derice Shomilov Susoho
2. Filip Svensson
3. Tomas Öberg

With a lot of help from Lars Isberg I have finally managed to compile the results from the various parts of this competition into one main tournament in BangolfArena.

@ C-J, The reason i think it was scandalous is that 1:st it was he´s home lanes 2:nd compared to some of the players that was picked as first players he is far better.

@ Anson, is it pressuring to be called a big talent? And why is it early to say that he is as big a talent as Alf was? And as i talk alot with Derice when i play in Munktell during winterseason i can say that he doesnt seem to take it as pressure. I have never met a talent like that who is as humble as he is and he really have fun playing.

Well....the list came from the skilled tournamentleader Peter Brown actually...I just forwarded it to you guys...

All credit to Derice Shumilov Susoho but naming him the most promising swede since Alf Pettersson is way to early. No need to put pressure on a kid. Just have fun Derice. And congrats to a beautiful result in the U23 Challenge-tournament.

There is already a function for this in Bangof Arena. BA can collects statistics and calculate results and points for several (part) tournaments in many ways. The function is called Main Tournament.

It has been a very nice experience in Eskilstuna. It is always a pleasure to see Swedish players on hard felt courses like Eskilstuna. For us it has been important to make some more experience on felt, and it is very tricky to play on this course.
Congratulations to all the winners and to the Swedish Federation for the nice organisation.

I agree that Derice will be a really good player if he continues to develop as he has so far. But as I remember it when the U23 started out, was that it was mainly as a transition from the juniors to the big national team, although juniors have played in the team during the years. This year will mark Derice's first as a junior, which means he has four years left until he is in the main focus group for the U23. That being said I have no problem with him being picked as an alternate (I wouldn't have had a problem with him being picked as a first player either!) as the competition was played on his home course and experience is never a bad thing. But it was not even close to a scandal that he wasn't picked in the first place.

By the way. Great job Derice, and all you other Swedes! Even though most thought it was going to be a double Swedish victory, you still have to make the shots for it to happen.

Derice is the biggest talent Sweden have and has had since Alf Pettersson. Atleast in my eyes. For me it was scandalous that he wasnt picked as a original player in the team.

Sweden, and the world, has a new junior star.

If someone has energy to make individual player statistics (straight list) of all played rounds combined, that would be nice. This often happens with Bangolf Arena when a tournament is split into preliminary rounds vs. final rounds.

An honourable show from the FIN-LAT team, the second best country there if measured from average score per player.
