One of the reasons miniature golf is so popular is that it can be played by almost anyone. Many charities have realized this appeal and have turned to miniature golf events, versus more traditional "big" golf outings to help raise funds. These events usually are split into two categories - those held on minigolf courses and those held on custom courses. Today we'll take a short look at the former of the two.
The first event we're highlighting is Putting for Patriots an annual event held at the popular Pirate's Cove miniature golf chain in the US. The tenth version of this event wrapped up on Memorial Day in the US (the last Monday of May - an official holiday to remember those military servicemen and servicewomen who have fallen) and over those ten years they have raised more than $300 thousand (~264 thousand EUR). The proceeds benefit several charities that support military veterans.
While the Putting for Patriots program is a national event, smaller charities can also get in on the action. Our second link looks at a smaller event held in April in the US. The total raised here was just over $1,400 (~1,200 EUR) but it all went to a good cause, supporting a local child advocacy network. This event went beyond more than just the money raise though. As the article highlights, they had golfers ranging in age from 2 to 79, emphasizing the wide appeal of minigolf. It also discussed the generosity of many as 57 children were able to play the event for free because of donations.
