Ten hardy minigolfers, including two debutants, took to the felt in Nottingham at the Lost City Adventure Golf complex for the annual running of the Midlands Invitational Tournament, the third of the Midlands club events after The Open and The Masters. Lost City is the current home of the event, having been previously held in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Dorridge and Warwick.
Quite unbelievably, this was Michael Smith's first win in the competition, despite the British number one's dominance of the regular tour schedule. The MIdlands club captain picked up a twelve shot victory from Chris Smith, who beat Ruth Burke in a play off for second.
Michael was happy with his days work. "I’m delighted with how the tournament went. All the players competed in a fantastic spirit throughout the competition, which always makes it easier to run the tournament. There were some excellent performances on the day, with two very good competitive minigolf debuts from Alex and Henri, and a number of players who improved their totals from the 2015 MIT. The drama for the play-off for 2nd place between Ruth and Chris was a great way to end the tournament."
He continued, “I’d also like to publicly thank Lane, Laura, Jennifer and all their staff at Lost City Adventure Golf, Nottingham, for their fantastic hospitality over the weekend. All the players were especially grateful for the free drinks and the general warmth and friendliness of the staff on both Saturday and Sunday.”
