Amazing Super Weekend showed minigolf at its best!

Nearly 40 players participated in Super Weekend held in Rahola, Tampere on October 29-30. First class, E1 (eternite 1), players raised the level high up right from the start. Kosti Salonen, Tantogårdens BGK, played deathly steadily and won the stroke play with rounds 24-21-21-21-21. However, the fight fir the title was really tight. Markku Sillman, Manse RG, stayed the whole competition right behind Salonen and even narrowed the lead to only one shot in the last round. Third place both in E1 and general competition went to a younger Sillman, Aki Sillman, Kungälv BGK. Scoring 19 in the last round he made a new record of the renovated lanes.

In E2 Mikko Ahonen, Manse RG, was overpowering! Five rounds’ green average 23.80 guaranteed him not only 12 shots lead in E2 but also an absolutely great rank 4 in general competition. After a replay Timo Kuusela, TuRGS, took the second place over Manse player Ida Hiltunen. Norrvalla player Carina Smeds won E3-class also after a replay. Mika Salonen and Raimo Pessa completed the top 3.

On Sunday it was match play time! Match play is talked about the game of the ones who surprise. However, pretty usually successes are experienced top players and first two rounds moved forward as expected - Kosti Salonen continued playing well and stroke play’s best woman, Sandra Walker won Mirva Juhola, for examples.

The weekend’s biggest surprise was seen in the eventful round three. Especially in previous match plays, Manse junior player Aapo Siurola had already shown his huge potential. And now he got to face the winner, Kosti Salonen. After three played lanes Siurola had a 1 point lead. The game was tight; hole in one after hole in one and no mistakes. Near to the end Siurola got his second point and lead again until Salonen first equalised and then took the lead before two last lanes, kidney and pipe. Young Siurola defeated the pressure amazingly and won!

In fourth round Marko Nuotio didn’t make the winning easy to Siurola. After a whole round the match continued to the sudden death. After the third lane, angle, Siurola got to celebrate his place in the finals. Meanwhile Aki Sillman won his match against Markku Sillman. And so it was time to a rematch from the previous match play played on April!

Both finalists offered real excitement playing wonderfully. The crucial 3-2 difference arose at the fourteenth lane, Salzburg V. Siurola got one more chance to equalise the result. However, the needed spin shot didn’t succeeded and Super-Sillman took the victory second time from Siurola.

Winner Aki Sillman has this to say about the play, "On Saturday my playing was a bit missing for three and a half rounds but then it started to get better and better. On Sunday I knew that if I could continue from where my playing ended on Saturday I wouldn’t have to worry, no sweat. And it started well. Timo Kuusela destabilized me a bit but I fought over it! The final round didn’t start so well anyway. But once again I improved and I knew I would get enough chances to equalise and win."

Aapo Siurola also had this to say about the competition, "It felt surprisingly good to play on Saturday compared to training. On Sunday I had long and tuff matches but my playing worked, it was great! Tsuh!".

Markku Sillman completed the podium after winning Marko Nuotio 4-3.
