Miniature Golf and Bettering the Community - Part 6

World 09 Jan 2018 at 13:45 | Published by: PatPenguin | Views: 845 | News search

Miniature Golf and Bettering the Community - Part 6 We're going to start 2018 off right by taking a moment to look at more ways that miniature golf is helping many communities execute on the theme of helping others. You can visit Part 5 of this series to take a look at the last events we highlighted.

In our first article we travel to Georgia, USA where the Lake Wildwood Neighborhood Watch held a
Putt with Deputies event to help the community get closer to law enforcement, a theme similar to what we saw in a previous event in Virginia. While the article is short the picture is great, showing one of the local deputies putting with a flamingo as they had to play by special rules in the tournament.

Keeping in Georgia and the theme of law enforcement, Savannah held an event to support their
Crimestoppers reward fund. The linked article has a short video discussing the event.

Sometimes it's not all about the minigolf course giving back to the community. Sometimes it's about the community giving back to the minigolf course. After a storm cut through Nebraska, USA,
the Beatrice Mini Golf suffered some extensive damage to the course which would have required months to fix on their own. The love of the course in the community showed, however, as volunteers rallied to help clean up and fix items, allowing the course to re-open less than a week after the storm. This kind of commitment from patrons of a business shows how much a local course can mean to the community and the families who live and play there.

Coming up this month in Illinois, USA, they are taking advantage of the cold weather to host a
mini golf pub crawl through local establishments who have developed their own holes. The monies raised from this program go to support projects in the downtown area as part of an effort around historic preservation. Using minigolf is a great way to get people to the location you want to help so they can see the impact their day on the links is having.

The last bit we want to highlight with this article is an act of community presented by a minigolf this past holiday season and comes to us from Australia. In the spirit of holiday giving, the owners of
Grampians Adventure Golf decided to bring their holiday charitable work closer to home and opened the doors of their course on Christmas to anyone looking for someone to celebrate the holiday with. Given the volume of tourists in the area, they knew there were folks looking for someone to share good times with and had about 25 people attend. They are hoping to keep it up as an annual tradition and we think its just another great way to show the versatility of miniature golf in driving community spirit.

Do you have an example of miniature golf being the center of a community cause? Send it to our editor at patsheridan@minigolfnews.com
