We already played our first tournament back in January in Gloucester. Usually, I didn’t play very well here on strokeplay events so far before, but this time I surprised myself with a 4th place finish. I was very happy with that.
Next stop Hastings Open, I didn’t have high expectations on a course I have never played before. I finished in the top half of the field, and I was ok with that, just a bit disappointed because of the last round.
In the same month, we played the Strokes Open and the Club Championships. First, the strokeplay was my result this year based on my expectations, I played badly. On the second day, we finished 6th in the Clubs, which is a respectable result for a 3-player team, and we barely missed out on the semi final. Both days we had challenging conditions on an already challenging course.
This month we visited Gloucester again, this time we played the bigger events, singles matchplay, and the Gloucester Aces Open. In the matchplay, I roughly ended up where I finished last year with 12th place (last year was 11th). After that, I played well again in strokeplay and finished 7th. That’s my best-ever finish at a BMGA ranking event, and it means I achieved 1 of my goals of this year, my first top 10. Not only that but last round I shot a 20, which was my new personal best for a 12-hole course. Pure happiness.
Finally previous weekend, I visited Sweden for the first time, to play a City Golf Tour event. It was a huge and really strong field to play with. The course was really nice, all holes are designed to have a good chance to ace them. I saw some videos about it, and the results from last year, and I expected it to be a bit easier, but you have to put some work in the get really good scores. My second day in Sundyberg was the best for me, during training I achieved my new personal best with a 26. The same day that evening I made another PB for a 12-hole course with a 19.
I finished 57th out of 90 players in this tournament, not great, not terrible (-34). The goal was to get at least one score under 30, and I managed that with a 29 in the last 2 rounds. I really enjoyed my stay here, it was a great course in a great area, and I can’t have any complaints about the weather or the food either. I’m looking forward to play this course again in the future.
Overall it was a good start to the season, soon we’ll play the Gemini Open in May, then the World Crazies and the WAGM in June. See you somewhere! :)
