Today is Olympic Day.

Did you know that in the 1904 Olympic Games held in St Louis, USA there was a 9-hole Putting Course specifically built at the Glen Echo Country Club for a Putting Championship?

The competition was won by Burt McKinnie of Normandie GC.

Hello Thomas,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, the 1904 Games were quite a wild affair - with a number of other sporting events taking place out of the scope of the 'official' sports. They also took place over several months and organised alongside the World's Fair, rather than as a standalone event.

A nice bit of support for Minigolf from the host course here http://twitter.com/GlenEchoCC/status/481462335068839937

Some more info on the Putting contest (held under electric lights) can be found at:

Golf is making its first appearance in the Olympics since 1904 this week. There are Golf events at the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games at Nanjing 2014 http://www.nanjing2014.org/en/en_sports/sportsIntroGolf.htm
