During last weekend the Italian championships has been played on the new miniaturegolf course in Algund, in a beautiful landscape and very very hot weather with strong sun and temperatures close to 35°C.
The new course is not so difficult and not so easy too, with a couple of very eventful lanes that have to be improved in the future.

90 players coming from all country challenged two days in the most important event of the italian season.

Starting from the team events, no surprises and no big thriller both in the men and ladies event. GSP Vergiate won the 10th title of its history with a big margin on all the other teams: 824 strokes (22,9 average) that gave them 13 strokes advantage on MT Amatese and 17 on MC Monza. The home team of MV Algund managed to catch a good 4th place passing a disappointing GSP Cusano just in the last of the 6 rounds.
No history also in the ladies team events, with GSP Cusano winning with a massive lead of 34 strokes on MC Monza.
This is the third consecutive title for GSP Cusano.

The teams rankings are the following:

MALE TEAMS

1 G.S.P. VERGIATE 139 135 131 138 133 148 824 22,9 ITALIAN CHAMPION 2012
2 M.T. AMATESE 143 140 144 138 135 137 837 23,3
3 M.C MONZA 140 140 138 140 143 140 841 23,4
4 AMV ALGUND/Raiffeisen 143 149 144 142 135 140 853 23,7
5 G.S.P. CUSANO 139 148 135 143 148 148 861 23,9
6 SSV NATURNS 147 151 146 148 141 148 881 24,5
7 SV LANA_Raika 146 152 155 145 160 156 914 25,4
8 MGC SEIS 162 163 154 158 151 160 948 26,3

FEMALE TEAMS

1 G.S.P. CUSANO 79 70 71 72 79 73 444 24,7 ITALIAN CHAMPION 2012
2 M.C . MONZA 87 77 86 75 75 78 478 26,6

Much more emotions in the individual events.
The male event has been the closest of the last 10 years, with up to 10 player that could win the title until the last round.
At the end of a very nice and emotional battle, the new Italian Champion is Roberto Garbui (GSP Vergiate) that scored a total of 174 strokes on 8 rounds (21,8 average) with a very regular tournament (all rounds between 21-23). Roberto got the first important title after a long carreer, this was really his best minigolf year having played extremely well all the year.
Roberto leaded the tournament all the way long and had to save one single stroke on Francesco Leuci (MT Amatese), that ended with 175 strokes (21,9 average) coming back on the podium after the title won in Predazzo 2010.
Third place, with a good comeback in the last 2 rounds, for Paolo Porta (MGC Novi Ligure) that collected another medal of his successful carreer being 8 times on the podium of the italian championships (5x gold, 1x silver and now 2x bronze). Paolo ended with a total of 176 strokes (22,0 average) and beated Rudi Giroldini right at the last lane of the last round by just one stroke. Same score than Rudi also for Lorenzo Levis (GSP Vergiate - 5th), Andreas Dall'Acqua (SSV Naturns - 6th). Right after them we have Michael Prantl (SSV Naturns - 7th with 178 strokes), Roberto Raspanti (MC Follonica - 8th with 179 strokes), Emanuele Prestinari (GSP Cusano - 9th with 179 strokes) and Stefano Piccini (MT Amatese - 10th with 180 strokes).

The ladies event has really a thrilling final: Anna Bandera (GSP Cusano) and Paola Tecchio (MC Follonica) played on the same level for all the tournament and all has been decided on the last lane (blitz) where Anna made a 4 on the 7th round and a 3 on the 8th and last round. This is very upsetting because the last lane has a very stupid way to play with a "clicker", which is really eventful.
In the end, Paola Tecchio completed the 8 rounds with a total of 189 strokes against the 192 of Anna Bandera. For Paola this is the third national title after those won in 2001 and 2006.
Bronze medal position for Sara Marchiani (GSP Cusano) with 195 strokes.

Only one " 18 " round (by Andreas Dall'Acqua) and 4 " 19 " (Ottavio Boninsegna, Claudio Santopietro, Kurt Unterhauser, Alexander Lang) rounds have been played on this championship: the course is not so difficult, but it's very difficult to play under 20 due to a couple of difficult/eventful lanes.

These are the top players of this championship:

1 Roberto Garbui GSP Vergiate 22 21 21 22 22 23 21 22 21,8 2 174 ITALIAN CHAMPION 2012

Nice report of the Italian Championships. A rather long text anyway, and as we go along reading it we tend to forget who is the reporter, but somewhere around the middle we get to remember who he is ;). Congratulations to all the winners!
