The Adventure Golf Championship byIn American Golf was added to the tournament calendar this year to encourage more people to experience the fun of competition golf. The regional qualifying events have now come to their conclusion and the line up for the Final, which takes place at the Belfry in September, reflects the growing diversity in golf.
The 14 pair line up is made up of several Family pairs who will tee off alongside seasoned mini golfers as well as a pair of rising stars from junior county golf! Whilst putting ability is important, age really is no barrier to this type of golf, which is best demonstrated by Father-Son duo from Renfrewshire Peter Kelly and Anthony Finnie who are aged 55 and just 4 years respectively!
Competition for the coveted inaugural trophy, held on the incredible Ryder Legends Adventure Golf course at iconic Ryder Cup venue, The Belfry, will be fierce. Self-confessed ‘Minigolfers’ 37-year-old Richard Gottfried, from Stockport and his playing partner 50-year-old Peter Jones, from Rhyl are excited to qualify as Richard explains, “It's brilliant to have won the Adventure Golf Regional Qualifier at Clays Golf Centre. We received a superb welcome from the American Golf team at Clays and had a great time playing the tricky course in Wrexham. I'm really looking forward to taking on the challenge at The Belfry in the American Golf Grand Final."
The two Minigolf fanatics will need to fend off competition from all over Great Britain as players congregate in the Midlands for what promises to be a fantastic celebration of golf of all kinds. Daniel Gathercole, Director of Marketing and Communications at American Golf, is excited about the potential this event offers, “Adventure Golf is a fantastic way of introducing people to golf, and it’s great that absolute beginners can have fun playing alongside regular golfers. Who knows, a competition like this could be the start of a journey that takes someone from an absolute beginner to winning a major!”
