It's been a few years since his last win but Ron Asselin of New Britain, Connecticut (CT) returned to winning form for the 35th Annual Pat Guglielmo Memorial Farmington Miniature Golf tournament as he lead wire-to-wire to secure the win by 3 strokes over Alex Butensky, of Farmington, CT a former winner himself. Alex also shot the low round for the tournament (35). John O'Leary of Winchester, CT rounded out the top 3.
The 3 round tournament was held on August 20th and 21st and the weather was beautiful for both days. The tournament requires that you use the course minigolf balls and is split into two tiers for the last round of competition. A total of 42 participants played this year, with 29 putters making the cut for the top tier. While the participant list was dominated by local minigolf enthusiasts, several USPMGA pros were in attendance.
Prizes for the upper tier were $125.00 first place, $50.00 second place, $40.00 third place, $20.00 fourth place and $15.00 for fifth. The lower tier winners this year were Carson Bloomquist of Newington, CT in first, Jared Young of Farmington, CT and John Papadopolous of Avon, CT tied for second. Jean Robbins of West Simsbury, CT placed third.
There were numerous winners of selected hole in one shots and even a best dressed player cash award once again given to Mark “THE HIGHLIGHT” Novicki of East Hartford, CT for his color coordinated outfits.
This event also doubles as a fundraiser and donations from the event netted $936 which will be split between the Jimmy Fund and the Uconn Children’s Cancer Fund.
Next year the 36th Tournament will be held on Saturday August 19th and Sunday August 20th , 2017.
